According to the Japanese newspaper Nagasaki Shimbun, three casino complex operators express their interest in establishing an integrated complex in the Japanese prefecture. Of those three, two operators are based in the United States and one in Asia.
At the moment, there are no official comments from provincial officials on the newspaper’s report.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, there were three other casino operators that declared interest in the summer. They were the Present Corporation of Japan; a Japanese unit of Casinos Austria International Holdings GmbH; and Oshidori International Holdings Ltd., which is listed in Hong Kong.
In November last year, the Tokyo-listed Pixel Companyz Inc said its main focus is Nagasaki prefecture and its pursuit of a Japanese casino license. To do this, the company forms a consortium.
Nagasaki Prefecture Governor Hodo Nakamura stated that on Thursday, January 7, Nagasaki will begin its Request for Proposal (RFP) process for a casino complex – also known in Japan as an Integrated Complex (IR). The statement was made in late December during a regular briefing for the media.
The decision on any request from the local government will be in the hands of the national authorities. There will be a permit for up to three such facilities nationwide in the first phase market liberalization.
The country’s government announced the Dec. 18 that central authorities would begin to accept your mission is of local governments for the right to host a complex as of October 1, 2021. The closing date is April 28, 2022, which means that there is a delay of nine months from the previously announced schedule.
The latest schedule of the Nagasaki IR is as follows: the selection of an IR operator, as well as the next conclusion of the IR founding agreement between the prefecture and the selected company, will take place between the summer and fall of 2021 .
Then the local development plan will be established between the summer of 2021 and the beginning of the winter of the same year.
After that, in the spring of 2022, the Sasebo prefectural government and city council, the proposed location authority for a Nagasaki IR, will resolve the RI development plan. Soon after, the prefecture must present its plan to the national government.
If the national government approves the plan, in 2023 the IR implementation agreement between the prefecture itself and the IR operator would be formalized. Immediately afterwards the construction process will begin.
According to the plan, the IR will open in the late 2020s.
