The circuit has begun to fill in dates for next year with four new appointments, two of them live. In two weeks, the Gardens FT will be one year old without renewing.
Lucky Hearts Poker Open, the WPT is back live
It seems that the World Poker Tour begins to resume its activity on the main circuit, or at least this is indicated by a recent update on the official calendar.
Since last May, when the tournament of Champions that should have closed the annual cycle of tournaments in the WPT was attached to the postponed tag, the only addition that had received the current season’s agenda had been the inclusion of the WPT Championships Online which was held in August at partypoker.
In the limbo of this unfortunate 2020 they have stayed the aforementioned TOC, the WPT Choctaw (May 15), the WPT Barcelona (March 31) and the WPT at Venetian (March 13), all of them affected by the pandemic and that remain in the POSTPONED category. Only the WPT SHR Poker Showdown on May 1 is shown as definitely canceled.
However, there has been a new movement on the web following the confirmation of the holding of an online festival on the US partypoker network. Added to the calendar new season 2020-2021, and on the page of the current season four new dates have appeared.
The most striking thing is that the tournament announced for next January 22, a new edition of the Lucky Hearts Poker Open, will be held live.
New season (with the forecast of a tournament in Cambodia for May and the provisional date of the WPT World Online Championships 2021, which would start with the month of September).
Tournaments of the current season 2019-2020 (two live, one in three weeks in Florida and another in February in Russia, the transfer of the WPT Montreal to online and a provisional date for a festival on partypoker for next May).
A quick visit to the official website of the Seminole Hard Rock allows you to check that the casino has been organizing MTTs for a few months. Today they played the final table of the main event of a festival called Fun in the Sun. The return of the great circuits, with the WPT, was announced last November.
The resort’s Twitter account advertises rooms for the Lucky Hearts Poker Open, and specifies that precautions for the pandemic require a maximum capacity for each of the initial flights of the tournament, which will be 400 players at most.
Registration is open for the 2021 Lucky Hearts Poker Open Event # 1! The opening event will have a 400 player per flight cap! You can buy your ticket now in the poker room! Before bringing live poker back to the mainstream, the WPT has already formalized its return to casinos with a WPT Deepstacks stop that was played last week in Taiwan.
Everything seems to cry out for a return to normality, when it is not at all clear that we are not going to face a third wave of COVID-19 infections of equal or greater virulence than the previous ones. But the most striking thing is that the organization is thinking of resuming activity on the competitive front while has still in the air three final tables to play.
The finalists of the WPT Gardens Poker Championship, WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open and WPT LA Poker Classic – a game in which the Spanish Ka Kwan Lau has a reserved seat – are still waiting for instructions to settle this thorny pending issue.
All three FTs were reserved for a televised special to be played in Las Vegas in April, and had to be quarantined like the rest of live poker worldwide. The earliest, that of the WPT Gardens, played its bubble on January 13. In two weeks, it will be a full year without quitting. His natural hole on the calendar is a week before WPT Lucky Hearts, which, as planned by the WPT, will meet two different champions before Gardens crown theirs.
