Penn National Gaming will debut a Barstool Sportsbook at the Greektown Casino Hotel on December 23, 2020, as all three Detroit casinos were allowed to resume operations after a state-ordered shutdown that lasted more than a month.

Greektown Casino Hotel is located in downtown Detroit and is one of three physical gambling venues located in that part of the city.

The new Barstool Sportsbook is located on the second floor of the casino, right next to its table games area. Penn National said it would attract sports fans with a “Captivating entrance” and it will feature a sports watching area and dining room, betting counter with large odds boards, various sports betting kiosks and ticket writing stations that will support thousands of betting options for sports betting customers.

Guests will be offered a gambling experience in close proximity to restaurants and televisions broadcasting sporting events from across the United States and the rest of the world.

By placing bets at the sportsbook, Greektown Casino customers will also be able to earn level points and mycash within the Penn National loyalty program.

The opening of the new Barstool Sportsbook is part of Penn National’s strategy to use the Barstool Sports brand in more than 40 properties in all the country. The casino operator bought a 36% stake in the digital sports media company earlier this year in a deal that Penn National interactive director Jon Kaplowitz said would “lead the public to online gaming products and Penn National retail locations. “

Casino reopening

Penn National’s announcement about the new Barstool Sportsbook came just as the company was also preparing to reopen the Greektown Casino after it was forced to close the gaming venue more than a month ago as the state battled a new surge in Covid-19 cases.

After a shutdown that began in mid-November, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said last week that Detroit casinos can resume operations with limited capacity from Monday. Under a state order that will remain in effect until January 15, the three gaming venues must operate with a total capacity of 100 people “within any distinct space within the venue.”

In the same order, “occupancy is limited to 20 people per 1,000 square feet, even within any other space within the site.”

Food and beverage facilities within the casinos were ordered to remain closed, while strict social distancing measures must be implemented.

Aside from Greektown and its new Barstool Sportsbook, the other two Detroit casinos will also reopen their existing sports betting facilities. MotorCity Casino houses a FanDuel Sportsbook, while MGM Grand Detroit features a BetMGM-branded betting facility.

On their new sportsbook, Greektown Casino Vice President and General Manager John Drake said they are delighted to open the new facility and that its “design shows the spirit of the Barstool Sports brand, resulting in a exceptional sports betting experience which we hope our customers fully enjoy. “
