The Cordish Companies held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate the opening of the Live! $ 150 million Pittsburgh Casino, the first of two Live! Branded casinos that the real estate developer and casino operator plans to launch in Pennsylvania.
Tuesday’s ceremony marked the opening of the new casino. A grand opening ceremony is scheduled for November 24, 2020, when the property will open to the general public.
Pennsylvania’s First Mini Casino Ready for Launch Nov. 24
Live! Casino Pittsburgh occupies the former Bon-Ton department store on Westmoreland Mall in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
The new casino is located about 30 miles from Pittsburgh. It has 750 slot machines and 30 table games in over 100,000 square feet of space. It also offers a FanDuel-branded sportsbook as part of a partnership between The Cordish Companies and the sports betting operator.
The non-gambling facilities in the casino complex include several restaurants and various entertainment options, such as live music and non-casino games.
The new casino occupies two levels. The games room is located on the ground floor and only admits visitors over 21 years old. The second floor is available for visitors of all ages.
Jon Cordish, Principal of The Cordish Companies, commented on the addition of a new property to the Live! Brand, saying “Live! Casino Pittsburgh is a world-class destination that will set the standard for games, meals and entertainment in the region. ”
Live! Pittsburgh Casino is expected generate $ 188 million in annual economic impact and an additional $ 148 million in economic impact from construction. The property is also expected to generate $ 47.5 million in tax revenue. It is expected to create more than 500 permanent jobs for local and regional residents when fully operational.
Incoming State Senate Majority Leader Kim Ward said that “to be generating hundreds of new, permanent, high-paying jobs right now is a real testimony of the value that this project is contributing to our region. ”
Live! Casino Pittsburgh marks the brand’s debut in Pennsylvania. The facility is the first mini-casino to open doors in the state after Gov. Tom Wolf approved a 2017 massive expansion of the Pennsylvania casino industry. The radical reform included the development of up to 10 mini satellite casinos in different parts of the state. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has so far issued five mini-casino licenses.
Apart from Live! Casino Pittsburgh, The Cordish Companies is also preparing for the opening of its Live! Casino PhiladelphiaA state-of-the-art casino complex located in the heart of Philadelphia’s Stadium district and will open in early 2021. The property will be the city’s second full-fledged casino, ending Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s monopoly in the local market.
